HAE Summits Crocker Mountain in Maine
HAE adds another mountain higher than 4000 feet to their winter expedition list! Rexx Vaters once again replaces Markus Needlemeyer and joins the infamous HAE Team on an assault of Crocker Mountain, weighing in at 4168 feet. After bushwacking to the Appalachian Trail, the guys made the grueling ascent under cloudy skies with temps stable at a balmy 20 degrees. Back at camp, the saws came out, trees were trimmed and the Maine woods burned brightly in typical Half Ass Expeditions fashion. Arriving in the late afternoon at the Appalachian Trail crossing on route 27, just south of Stratton, Maine, the four winter hikers were forced to walk a mile in on a snowmobile trail and set up camp in the dark. The HAE team was equipped for 5 days of sub zero winter weather but what they got was rain. The team made the summit of Crocker Mountain on Saturday, January 1st, after waiting out a full day of rain like trail trash under the famous "Bigtop" shelter.

HAE is widely known for the near fatal events on Mount Bigelow, Maine in 1987, chronicled in their online adventure classic, Into Big Maine. HAE is responsible for countless acres of deforestation in northern New England during their well publicized annual winter backpacking expeditions.
